hi, im marlon from Dominica... always had a thing for taking apart and putting things together so my girl got me a totalled 89 corolla for my 21st birthday, from the day i brought it home i literally spent a minimum of 12 hours a day on it and right now it runs better than my 01 vitara in my opinion. i am a student studying abroad so i have only had a few month a year but i have grown to love it to death. my friends had hondas, mitsubishis and suzukis at the beginning but after helping and watching my project as well as looking at the issues they were getting, im proud to say that 4 out of the 6 of us now own corollas.. anyways im happy to have found this forum and looking forward to geting some ideas and advice on my project.
P.S im new to this forum and having some issues uploading the photos so some advice would b appreciated. thanks

hey guys, here are a few of the pics. dont really have much as this project was entirely for fun. this is how i got it, entire front had to be replaced, apron had to be straightened and the chassy has a kink that had to be pulled back, the engine seemed to be ok as most of the damage was done to the left side and the the was minimal damage to the downpipe. i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120618-00025_zpsa565d210.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120619-00028_zpsb4fb2b70.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120619-00031_zpsb6f0d01a.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120619-00032_zps55ca74fe.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120619-00034_zps6cdf27b0.jpgthen the work began.. removed fender, hood and wind shield i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120716-00106_zps9819b56d.jpgreinforcement for the wind shield was needed as rust and corrosion caused leakage i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120716-00109_zps013ec49a.jpg
began removing front end i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120724-00126_zps9511b3eb.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120724-00128_zps02c26e92.jpgonly pic i have of the placement of the new front end..sorry i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120806-00150_zpsb51ba38f.jpggot some new shoes i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120807-00154_zps629bd9f1.jpgtest fitting of the radiator and lights i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120807-00156_zpsdaf4d72d.jpgtest fitting of bumper, grill etc, also the glass was back in i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20120827-00192_zpsa796e908.jpgwasnt exactly straight...back to the drawing board i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130108-00535_zps2dfd233e.jpgstocked up the engine i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130114-00541_zpsf35ea28a.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130114-00543_zps87c5f2a1.jpgthis was the product after roughly a month (birthday is at end of july and i left for skool at end of august) i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130122-00576_zps57a429a7.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130122-00577_zpsa0f8fa01.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130122-00578_zpsb91628fd.jpgdid alot of rewiring and rust repair work over the christmas including converting to automatic doors. this summer was a slow one as i had alot of travelling to do but i gutted the entire car and went in hard... take a loook i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130521-00743_zpse488bcfe.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130521-00744_zps2e5e2517.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130521-00745_zpsa154d4dc.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130522-00749_zpsbccf4665.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130522-00753_zps23bc403b.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130522-00754_zpse0f7c32c.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130610-00793_zpsd2c2419e.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130617-00799_zps8461e6a8.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130823-00877_zps299994d9.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130824-00881_zps5a261c53.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130824-00884_zps2bd42a7b.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130826-00889_zpsb7412b2e.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130827-00897_zpscfbb55ea.jpgi922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/mnicholas187/IMG-20130827-00900_zps35c7c136.jpgcouple of things i forgot to mention.... did this on my own, every single step with only the help of youtube, and Haynes Repair Manual and no prior experience. engine starts and idles perfectly, but im having an issue with speed, i have plenty of power can climb almost any hill in 2nd and 3rd gear but the is a serious lag in acceleration and limited overall speed, at first i thought it was normal but after dirving the other corollas around (one the same engine as mine) i realized that mine was lacking.. pointers, tips, advice of ANY kind is cheerfully welcomed guys.

Awesome man hats off to you definitely you pour your heart to this project, regarding lack of power did you knew how the car behave before the accident? Check the compression on the pistons and see how are the readings, also did you flush, purge and tune up the car?

Awesome man hats off to you definitely you pour your heart to this project, regarding lack of power did you knew how the car behave before the accident? Check the compression on the pistons and see how are the readings, also did you flush, purge and tune up the car? yea, i really did man, thanks... no idea other than what the owner told me which was "it was fine, everything was working well" which i find hard to believe as the reason it crashed was because he got no breaks (break pad was bare, rotor had began to pay for it aswell) which led me to think that he was just a start and drive kinda guy, and it was also parked for over a year. removed the head and it was stock, i was even surprised, so i thought there was no need to go further, especially with my inexperience, so all i did was change the distributor, new plugs, leads, stocked the carb did an oil flush, change the oil and gas filters. as with checking the compression, i dont even kno where to start but i will look it up and see what i need before i head back home for christmas
