Hey everyone, I bet your wondering "Yeah and then it'll peel and chip after a week." Maybe, I just did this process and I think it worked out pretty good.
NOTE: This is for Hard plastic ABS pieces only, for now. and make sure it's not tooooooo humid or cold out. Room temp is the best.
NOTE: I am not a professional painter and this may screw up your interior, consider my interior screwed
So I have extra interior panels for my Hachi, so why not experiment and paint them.
I went down to auto zone and bought some of that vinyl shit duplicolor. came home stocked and dried the panels. Sprayed on thin light coats, until completely covered with paint. let dry. got anxious and accidently peeled the paint off...whoops. I got pissed and thought that there had to be a better way. THERE IS! and i'm told it lasts longer
I went down to advance this time and bought some plastic adhesive primer stuff...it's clear. and two spray cans of white generic paint and I had some clear coat left over from my wheels [auto body clear coat].. ok here goes...
1: stock the panel with some detergent and a scrub brush/brillo pad.
2: dry the panel off
3: use alcohol to stock the panel dries quick and is effective
4. sand imperfections out. believe me, if it isn't perfect you'll be able to tell.
5: stock with alcohol again and if you have it blow with air comp.
6: spray 2 coats of plastic primer 3 minutes apart
7: 3 or 4 minutes later apply a thin coat of spray paint.
8: 5 minutes later another thin coat
9: repeat step 8 until suface is covered to your liking [not toooo much paint tho]
10: wait 10 mins and apply 2 or 3 clear coats 3 minutes apart
11: let dry for an hour or 2
12: install into car
13: brag to your friends about your custom job
OK now that i've told my experiences, anyone have any edits??
