I just got a Kinetik 1800 for under the hood. With the combination of the higher posts and stinger digital terminals, the hood now doesn't close without force. For clearance issues is it safe to take the tray out and just have it sit on the bare metal? I thought I remember hearing that it's not good for a battery to sit on concrete so I doubt the metal is ok. Thanks.

Hell no , the tray is to protect the metal so when the battery boils the acid would land on the tray , Some trays you need so the battery doesnt slide and you will arc on the positive side every time you turn . .. YOu should have measured the battery before you bought it ... LMAO Oh and if you dont care about your car then yea run it with out a tray

You can run it with out the tray just place a rubber mat under the battery to keep it In place and keep the acid from tuching the metal

on my tercel i took my tray off and never had a problem, i even think my supra doesnt have a try either, and same with the honda delsol too, never had a problem, if you have a battery tie down bracket and if its on there good, then it shouldn't be a problem, but if its going to be touching the hood, that i wouldn't recommend, could cause a fire to the car

LMAO Oh and if you dont care about your car then yea run it with out a tray Ant, I did measure the stock battery and check the specs of the new one. The battery itself is the same height and is actually a little shorter in length and I can still use the factory tie down. The problem is the posts screw into the battery and end up sitting higher than the posts on the stock battery. I also have stinger terminals that are bigger. So it now leaves no clearance. You can run it with out the tray just place a rubber mat under the battery to keep it In place and keep the acid from tuching the metal That's I was thinking bro. I know Kinetik sells battery cases too. I'm gonna find out if the case is thicker/thinner than the battery tray and maybe pick one up. on my tercel i took my tray off and never had a problem, i even think my supra doesnt have a try either, and same with the honda delsol too, never had a problem, if you have a battery tie down bracket and if its on there good, then it shouldn't be a problem, but if its going to be touching the hood, that i wouldn't recommend, could cause a fire to the car The stock tie down still works and that bitch ain't movin'! In a sense it's touching the hood but the terminals have plastic covers on them and the hood has a fire liner on the underside so there is no metal to metal contact. Still I know it's not good and it now leaves a little gap when the hood is closed.

im just wondering, but has any one ever seen battery acid spill out? besides corroding?? Not sure it means anything but according to the specs it's completely sealed and can be mounted in any position. That's gotta account for something lol mike please take a pic of the battery set-up I may have an idea to help you. Note the higher posts. Another problem is the terminals don't get that tight. Fully tightened I can pull off the positive terminal. I already tried those battery shims and they are too big to fit into the terminals. i got one move it to the back lol I already have a little Shuriken battery back there. A higher amp alternator may be in my future. With the dual battery setup my voltage still dips when it's cranked up.

I think the issues are fixed. Since the new battery is smaller, I played around with placement in the tray. The hood now seems to close just like it used to. It still may be really close but if anything it seems like it would only be with the neg terminal. As far as the terminals not getting tight enough. I used all my muscle and tightened the shit out of them. They only move very slightly if you really wiggle them. I guess all is well again. Thanks for the responses everyone!
