Why would you want to remove the rev limiter? there isn't anymore power beyond that point.

Well in short there is a rev limit because beyond that point there is no more power ... If you look at a dyno chart you will understand more or less how the power band works .. atleast stock but if you have a built 2zz then there would be more power to make so at that point increasing the rev limit would increase your power band ... I'm bad at explaining and don't really want to get to into it but yeah in short there's your answer
A aftermarket programmable ecu will take that rev limit off but you better have the supporting mods

Well if he's stock no, he should be worried about other things like adding bolt ons like I/H/E/IM bigger injectors pulley kit e85 a tune on a PFC that's how and you can make 200+whp with out messing with the internals ... Imagine a built motor

everybody wants to remove the rev limiter because they see other xrs online hitting 9k. Reality is that if your stock its not worth it. How James said do the basic upgrades and get a PFC to get good power out your car without hurting it.

even with I/H/E you probably still wouldnt get much power up there, change the internals and some cams and what not, but again 2zz is a yes but a 1zz is like ehhh. just saying, its like honda, ppl want 9k revs but dont realize there is no power up there with out internal work, timing etc.
plus you need good air flow, which means, p&p and you gotta make sure your valve train can handle more RPM than what it can exceed
