isnt it 4afe no crank sensor and 7afe has crank sensor also can a federal or jdm spec motor be put in a car that was designed for cali emissions

4a has crank sensor, i remember when i did my dads timing belt, had a sensor on the crank gear. also you can put any motor you want, just that cali is more strict, and wants to be normal, like all the sensor i guess they have more evap system, like more cats fuel canister, stuff like that, if the jdm motor doesn't have then i wouldn't recommend doing it.

do you have to do emissions that might do some restrictions? also if the car is obd2 and you put a obd1 motor your CEL will be on

Yea I gotta smog every year but idk if the 95 4afe is obd1 or 2

There are a few differences between both motors. The most notable differences is the oil pan from a one piece to a two piece. Other differences were intake valves were increased in diameter from 30mm to 31mm. Pistons were redesigned and bore and cam lift was also increased. Which is mainly why the 7AFE has a higher HP rating from 105HP in the 4AFE to 110HP with the 7AFE. One other main thing was the knock sensor is added for the 7AFE.
