ok so today i attempted doing a tune up on my 98 corolla, i figured i know its ben a long time since its ever had one so i would go ahead with it. i bought spark plugs, spark plug wires and all the oil change stuff. so everything went good and i took my time since it was a first for me...then i went to start the car and at first it started but it had like a thumping sound so i figured maybe thats cuz the oil needs a few mins to work itself in etc, but then it kept doin it so i turned off the car cuz i was kinda scared. went to turn it bak on and no start this time and i really have no idea wat to do...my stepdad said it could be the coils since i have new wires and thats still old...idk if thats true jus wanted to see wat yall think of this...thx

That is definitely a possibility I would check and make sure. All your wires are connected and plugs are tight I work oncars all the time and the oil would have nothing to do with it unless u didn't. Fill it up and check the gap on the plugs if u got gapable plugs if they are iridium or platinum fine wires don't mess with that you will ruin the plugs

I have a 98, this sounds like maybe the gap isn't right or even you switched up the wires... I'd look into that

Ok lesson on Spark plug Here is a DIY www.corollacarclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=diy&action=display&thread=546If you own a 1998 1.8 1zz a NON VVTi then you have to purchase the double end spark plug Plug Number - 3967 Make sure you gap them ask your auto parts store for gap Make sure you buy NGK or Denso dont buy BOSCH or any other one , Platnum No No No ... If you do not use the proper plug your engine will fail and use alot of gas . Then make sure you have your wires correctly in order , Then with a spare spark plug pull the wire and plug in the spark plug lay it down have someone crank the car and see if you see spark , Do that to each one , Each coil pack holds 2 plugs so if two have spark and two dont then bad coil pack . Some places like Auto Zone can test them while they are off but if all 4 plugs do not spark then it could be your ECM .

The wires are fine, but make sure that you put them accordingly, like cylinder 1 with coil 1 etc

You need to make sure you have them in the correct firing order and make sure you have the correct plugs - What kind of plugs do you have in them ?

Personally and at the shop I've had alot of problems with autozone parts to each his own but I would recommended a different brand but that's up to you. But everything everyone's said is a great place to start because it was works nigga before so its most likely something you did :n accident
