So you know how the 93-97 corolla has that large ugly shift knob? Well Ive been wanting to change mine for quite some time and unfortunately the ones at autozone with the button on top dont really call my attention However ive always wondered is it possible to change it to a manual shift knob like a lot of the newer cars have where u can just put it in gear and go or am i stuck with getting a shifter with a button? Also how would u lower the shifter b/c it sits abnormally high. Thanks

things you will need: and imagination! you'll need to cut the pipe down then cut the part that is in the center. you don't want the shifter to move without you pushing the plunger down.

Sorry I'm not too mechanic savvy so can u explain it in a little more detail pls? I def don't want it moving without me moving but like for instance on my 10 lancer I just hold down the brake pedal and then move the shifter into gear

Oh wait u mean there's an outer casing? So I need to cut the pipe then trim down the pipe in the center right?

I actually did this. I never got good pics, but when you remove the stock shifter, you'll see a looooong bolt thing going down the center of the shaft. The shaft does not go up/down with the button, the bolt does. On top of the bolt is a green plastic piece screwed/threaded on. I simply glued my new shift knob to that green piece so that the shift knob installed by twisting it on. To shift, just push the knob down! It was very nice actually. Hope this helps bro.

Ok I think I got it. B/c I wanted to get like a TRD shift knob but they're only manual so if I glued the knob to the green piece and screwed it back on I should be good to go hopefully. I guess I'd just have to push the shifter down when I go to put it in drive. Well I hope this works. Thx for the help guys

Promise me DONT CHANGE IT , You will regret it in the long run , Plus you need the over drive button to pass , I had changed my wifes on her car made a switch to turn on and off the OD for racing and I regreted it , It's easier to get to that button with the OEM one .... Plus it will always loosen up and sometimes get jammed where your car wont get out of park and your scratching our head wondering what the problem is

This weekend I'll make a DIY with pics to show you how to do it. If anything I can make a special one that you would beable to screw on a real manual shift knob.

But Rincon is right about the overdrive if you have it, you can either wire a switch or leave the wires disconnected so that overdrive is always on (the dash light is off). Or Wicked could make one for you. I could even send you mind if you want, it would just screw on.

Not specifically... I could take some though but it ain't no TRD knob. Oh wait, here's a pic. It's a black and chrome knob you could get at Auto Zone or something.

Ok but see how the shifter still sits kinda high? I guess that's what wicked was saying to do b/c I'd like the knob to sit kinda flush w/out that pole sitting so high. But thx I got what ur saying

IF your car DOSE NOT have o/d Then just make sure you have that shift knob really and i am really on there. Like he said before if you dont and it comes losse it can make getting your car in to gear a..well you know. You can move gears but you will be hating life. My corolla is a 5speed and i got the TRD knob and i put a short shifter in it. I love that thing. Good luck man.

You should be able to shorten the shaft easily, and then cut the bolt a little shorter.
