hi Guys...
i want to update my car by changing my instrument cluster to a new one with tach...
i have a 1995/96 Corolla...
Now,, i have heard some people saying that this mod is plug and play as long as i buy the correct cluster...
they say it depends on what year and engine model i have. and when i give them the info and ask what model of cluster i should buy, then they don't know anyway...
so i am confused...
can i just buy any type of cluster for my model and it will then be plug an play?
i guess if anything i should look around for one with the right topspeed on it... either 220 , 240, 260 km/h on it?
i currently have an economy light... does that have any influence?
i hope you Guys can help me..

I would love to see the pic but if your going from american to europe then you have to do some modifications but if your adding a rpm it should work with the simple plug in .
But your pic didnt take

But your pic didnt take Wierd, I Can se the pics... So if i buy a cluster called E44, an put it in my car, it will then work E44 is the silver one, going to 220km/h an revs to 8 thousand rpm. It doesn't have an economy light like i currently do. I Guess that doesn't matter...? I currently have a cluster with the a speedometer that goes to 220km/h, Its is called E41

So, now i went out and bougt my self and entire donor car.
I pulled the cluster out in order to Mount it in my car.
But only the ligths and indicators work.
I know that the cluster works, because it worked perfectly in the donor.
There are no revs, the temp is boiling eventhough the Engine is cold, an the gas goes up when on ignition, when startet it goes Down to the bottom.
Whats wrong guys?
The new cluster is called E48

This is something I found out on a search
Expert: Dave Nova replied 1 year ago.
I don't believe your problem is in the dash cluster. The fluctuating fuel gauge is typically due to worn contact fingers in the fuel level sensor inside the fuel tank. Replacement of the fuel level sensor is required to fix this problem. The part is $125 and labor is typically around $160.
The fluctuating temperature gauge could be a wiring or sensor problem, but I suspect that the coolant level may be low due to seepage at the intake manifold gaskets. Have someone at a service station (oil change place) remove the radiator cap for you to check and top off the coolant level. If topping off the coolant stabilizes the temperature gauge readings then the cooling system should be checked for leaks. A common problem is seepage at the intake manifold gaskets, allowing hte coolant level to drop slowly over time and you may not notice a leak on the ground.

I know my problem is in the wiring for the cluster.
Because as mentioned, the cluster works perfectly in the donor car, and my Stock cluster also works fine.
So the problem is that my car isnt wired the same Way as my donor...

i had this problem with mines. It is a simple issue of repining or switching out the connectors. I first obtained a usdm cluster with tach and it didnt work. I then ordered a jdm cluster with tach but cool looking grey color and of course it didnt work. Had it re-pinned and it works fine. There is a guy on here names Scott AKA kiwicorolla. He actually owns the same type as you. He may be able to help you out with a wiring diagram or something

But haven't figured out witch wires. I will try to get a hold on Scott :-) Thank you so much :-D
