hi Guys...
i decided to make my own shortshifter, i ended up reducing the throw of my shifter by 40 percent :-)
so i am quite happy with that...
this is how i did it..
first of all you take the entire shifter out of the car, that means taking out the glowbox, the entire center console and the bottum of the dash under the steering Wheel.
now you can acces your shifter.
take of the external shifter cable an the wiring harness, then you remove the clips that holds the shifter cabels down.
then you remove the 4 bolts holding the shifter to the floor.
now you can acces the buttom cable. once thats of you can take your shifter to your work table..
now pull it all a apart :-)
now it should look like this :
now you stock it all so you remove all the grease and dirt...
be carefull not to lose any parts...
then you mark your shifter were you are going to cut it, i used normal 10mm tape to mark it up.
then you take a bolt or piece of pipe and mark it up so you can cut the piece that you need..
i decided to only use a piece that is 10mm long... that gave me a reduction of 40%
you can go up to about 18mm without problems, but any more and you will need to raise your entire shifter console to make enough room under your shifter.
once you have cut the piece of metal that you need, stock it up so it will go together nicely..
now its time to weld.
weld your 3 pieces together, grind Down your welds and paint it so it won't rust...
now it is time to put it all back together, and dont forget to use plenty of grease..
i used normal Wheel bearing grease...
and there you have it...
your home made short shifter, after only about 2-3 hours of work, including beer time...
and if you have the tools required or know someone that has, this mod is basicly free... :-D
GYSOT! HAHA
i hope you guys enjoy it :-)
